Generative AI

Also known as: GenAI

AI that creates new content — text, images, code, or audio — rather than only classifying or ranking existing data.

Generative AI is the broad category that includes large language models, image generators, and the assistants built on them. In the context of findability, what matters is that generative systems produce answers about your market by drawing on whatever they have read or can retrieve.

This shifts discovery from "which page ranks highest" to "what does the model say when asked about this topic." Your business becomes part of an AI-generated narrative — or it doesn't, depending on how well your content can be understood and reused.

Example

Asked to "summarise the leading agentic findability consultants in the Netherlands," a generative system writes a short overview. Whether your name appears depends on what it has read about you.

Why this matters for AI findability

Generative AI is the umbrella under which agents and answer engines operate. Optimising for it means ensuring the raw material it generates from — your content — is clear, accurate, and machine-readable.
